Is Stake legal in Finland?
For decades the state-owned Veikkaus has held the exclusive right to offer gambling in mainland Finland under the Lotteries Act, with the National Police Board (Poliisihallitus) supervising. Foreign sites such as Stake.com have no Finnish licence, but Finnish law has never made it an offence for an adult to play on them; enforcement targets operators and marketing. Stake's terms do not list Finland as a prohibited jurisdiction. Åland has its own system through PAF.
That is changing. The new Gambling Act, signed on 16 January 2026, ends the Veikkaus monopoly for online betting and casino games. Licensed private operators will be able to offer them under a 22% tax on gross gaming revenue, while Veikkaus keeps lotteries, pool betting, land casinos and slot machines. Most sources put the opening on 1 January 2027, although some reports mention mid-2027. Supervision moves to a new agency under the Ministry of Finance.
The Act also gives the regulator ISP-blocking and payment-blocking powers against unlicensed operators, and bars licensed operators from accepting crypto. Once the licensed market opens, foreign sites without a Finnish licence are likely to be blocked more actively. The minimum age is 18.
This is general information, not legal advice. Follow Finnish law as the reform takes effect, and respect Stake's terms.
Why Stake may not load in Finland
Today, Finnish internet providers such as Elisa, Telia and DNA do not run a general gambling block list, so when Stake.com fails to load it is usually a temporary routing or DNS problem, a filtered workplace or school network, or a domain Stake has rotated out. Payment blocking has already been used against individual operators: since 2024, Finnish banks and payment providers have had to block transfers to one blacklisted operator group.
A mirror is the same Stake platform on another address, with your account and balance unchanged. The list on this page is timed from your own browser, so the address that responds fastest on your connection comes first. See how to find a working Stake mirror for how to spot a fake.
When the 2027 regime starts, the regulator can order ISP blocks of unlicensed sites. Mirrors are not a way around such an order, and you must follow Finnish law. Do not use a VPN; Stake's terms ban location masking and can close accounts that use it.
How to open Stake in Finland with a mirror
- Open this page and wait a few seconds while every mirror is tested from your connection in Finland.
- Pick the mirror marked with an asterisk: it answered fastest on the last check.
- Check that the address bar shows exactly the host from the list and a valid HTTPS padlock.
- Log in with your usual Stake account. Balance, history and VIP progress are the same on every mirror.
- If it stops loading later, come back here instead of searching: the list is re-tested on every visit.
Payments in Finland
Crypto is the practical route for Finns at Stake. Finnish banks have a history of declining gambling transactions to unlicensed operators, and the new Act widens payment-blocking powers, but blockchain transfers sit outside that system. Players typically buy Bitcoin, Ethereum or USDC on a European exchange registered with the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority or licensed under MiCA, then send it to Stake. See our guides to depositing Bitcoin and Litecoin for fee tips.
Finns are used to Trustly, Siirto, MobilePay and online-banking payments, which Veikkaus and licensed sites use. They are not normally available at Stake directly; if the cashier offers a bank or card on-ramp, treat it as a convenience that may change. Set the display currency to EUR.
Tax matters here. Finnish rules treat winnings from gambling organised within the EU/EEA as tax-free, while winnings from operators outside the EEA, such as a Curaçao-licensed site, can be taxable income, and crypto disposals have their own capital gains rules. This is not tax advice; check Vero's guidance.
Popular sports and games in Finland
Ice hockey is Finland's sport: Liiga, Finnish players in the NHL, and above all the IIHF World Championship, where Leijonat matches stop the country. Football follows, with the Veikkausliiga, the Premier League and the Champions League, along with Formula 1, harness racing (ravit), pesäpallo, cross-country skiing and ski jumping.
On the casino side, Finns have long played slots and table games through Veikkaus, and at Stake they often try Originals such as Dice and Limbo. Finland is on EET/EEST, an hour ahead of Central Europe, so NHL games run through the night. Stake's default decimal odds match what Finnish bettors use.
Tips for players in Finland
- Expect changes in 2027 as the licensed market opens and blocking powers apply.
- Remember that winnings from non-EEA operators can be taxable in Finland; keep records.
- Buy crypto on an FIN-FSA-registered or MiCA-licensed exchange and send a test deposit first.
- Use a low-fee network for small deposits; Litecoin and USDT on cheap networks work well.
- Set the display currency to EUR and keep odds in decimal.
- Bookmark a working mirror for days when the main domain is slow.
- Use deposit limits and see our responsible gambling guide; Peluuri offers free support in Finnish.
