Stake Costa Rica
Costa Rica hosts many online gambling companies but has never licensed online gambling for its own residents, and a bill to change that is still in committee. Here is what that means for Costa Ricans using Stake.com, which mirrors work and how deposits usually happen.

Is Stake legal in Costa Rica?
Costa Rica has no dedicated online gambling law or regulator. The Junta de Protección Social (JPS) holds exclusive rights over lotteries, sports betting and similar games under Law 8718, and land-based casinos fall under older gaming laws and municipal permits. Many international operators run support or data-processing companies in the country under Law 9050, but that framework is for serving players abroad, not Costa Ricans.
Offshore sites such as Stake.com therefore sit in a grey area: they hold no Costa Rican licence, the JPS has publicly called some unauthorised betting sites illegal, but there is no blocking regime and nothing we have found makes it an offence for an adult to play. Stake's own terms do not list Costa Rica as a prohibited jurisdiction.
Reform keeps coming back. Lawmakers rejected bill 25.057 in early 2026, and bill 25.600, filed by Deputy Esmeralda Britton, would make the JPS the single regulator for all gambling, with geoblocking of illegal sites, stricter identity checks and prison terms reported at two to six years for unlicensed operators. As of October 2026 it is still in committee. The minimum age is 18.
This is general information, not legal advice. Follow Costa Rican law and Stake's terms.
Why Stake may not load in Costa Rica
Costa Rican internet providers such as Kölbi, Liberty and Claro do not block gambling websites today. When Stake.com fails to load, the cause is usually a slow route, DNS problems on a home router, a filtered workplace or university network, or a domain Stake has rotated out.
A mirror is the same Stake platform on another address. Your account, balance and bet history are identical. The list on this page is timed from your own browser, so the address that responds fastest on your connection comes first. Our guide on how to find a working Stake mirror explains how to check that a domain is genuine.
If bill 25.600 passes, unlicensed sites could be geoblocked, and mirrors would not be a way around that; you would have to follow the law. Do not use a VPN to change your apparent location; Stake's terms forbid it and accounts can be closed.
How to open Stake in Costa Rica with a mirror
- Open this page and wait a few seconds while every mirror is tested from your connection in Costa Rica.
- Pick the mirror marked with an asterisk: it answered fastest on the last check.
- Check that the address bar shows exactly the host from the list and a valid HTTPS padlock.
- Log in with your usual Stake account. Balance, history and VIP progress are the same on every mirror.
- If it stops loading later, come back here instead of searching: the list is re-tested on every visit.
Payments in Costa Rica
SINPE Móvil is how Costa Ricans pay each other, but offshore casinos do not take it directly, and local cards are often declined for gambling. So Stake players use crypto. The common route is to buy USDT or Bitcoin on a peer-to-peer marketplace, paying the seller by SINPE Móvil or bank transfer, then send it to the Stake deposit address. Our USDT deposit guide and Litecoin deposit guide cover low-fee networks.
Crypto is legal to hold in Costa Rica but is not legal tender, and the Central Bank (BCCR) does not regulate or guarantee it, so be careful on P2P trades: use escrow and confirm the SINPE transfer before releasing coins. Many Costa Ricans keep savings in dollars, and stablecoins fit that habit.
If CRC is in Stake's display-currency list, select it; otherwise USD is the easiest reference. Tax on offshore winnings and crypto gains is not clearly defined; this is not tax advice.
Popular sports and games in Costa Rica
Football is the national passion. Primera División clásicos between Saprissa and Alajuelense, plus Herediano and Cartaginés, draw the most bets, along with La Sele in Concacaf and World Cup qualifying. LaLiga, the Premier League and the Champions League are followed closely, and cycling, surfing and the NBA have fans too.
On the casino side, slots and live roulette are popular, as are Stake Originals such as Plinko and Dice. Costa Rica is on UTC-6 all year, so European weekend matches start in the morning. Stake shows decimal odds by default; American odds are available too.
Tips for players in Costa Rica
