Stake Malawi

Malawi modernised its gambling law in 2022 and now licenses sports betting and online gaming through MAGLA. Here is what that means for Malawians looking at Stake.com, why the site can be slow on mobile data, and how players fund an account.

Why Stake may not load in Malawi

We have not found any MAGLA order asking Airtel or TNM to block gambling sites. When Stake.com fails to load in Malawi, the cause is usually ordinary: congested or expensive mobile data, slow international routes, power cuts knocking out home routers, DNS trouble, or a filtered workplace network.

A mirror is another address for the same Stake platform, with your account and balance unchanged. The list on this page is timed from your own browser, so the fastest address on your connection comes first. That helps on a slow 3G or 4G link. Our Is Stake down? page tells you whether the problem is Stake itself, and how to find a working Stake mirror explains how to avoid fake copies.

Mirrors are for routing problems, not for getting around any order from the authorities; you must follow Malawian law. Do not use a VPN to hide your location: Stake's terms forbid it and accounts can be closed.

How to open Stake in Malawi with a mirror

  1. Open this page and wait a few seconds while every mirror is tested from your connection in Malawi.
  2. Pick the mirror marked with an asterisk: it answered fastest on the last check.
  3. Check that the address bar shows exactly the host from the list and a valid HTTPS padlock.
  4. Log in with your usual Stake account. Balance, history and VIP progress are the same on every mirror.
  5. If it stops loading later, come back here instead of searching: the list is re-tested on every visit.

Payments in Malawi

Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba are how most Malawians send and receive money, and licensed local bookmakers take deposits through them. An offshore site without a MAGLA licence cannot, so Stake players use crypto: buy USDT or Bitcoin with mobile money on a P2P marketplace or exchange that supports kwacha, then send it to the Stake deposit address. Our USDT deposit guide covers which network keeps fees low.

Stablecoins are useful in Malawi because the kwacha has been devalued sharply in recent years and foreign currency is often scarce. A dollar-pegged balance avoids losing value between deposit and withdrawal. Withdrawals reverse the route: send USDT to your exchange and sell for kwacha to Airtel Money or Mpamba.

The Reserve Bank of Malawi has warned that crypto is not legal tender and is not regulated, so use escrow on P2P trades and confirm the mobile money receipt before releasing coins. This is not legal or tax advice.

Tips for players in Malawi

  • Check MAGLA's announcements; the licensing regime is still being built out.
  • Buy USDT with Airtel Money or Mpamba only through reputable exchanges or escrowed P2P trades.
  • Send a small test deposit before moving a larger amount.
  • Hold USDT to protect against kwacha devaluation between deposit and withdrawal.
  • Use a low-fee network for small amounts; see our Litecoin deposit guide.
  • Bookmark a working mirror for days when mobile data is slow.
  • Set deposit limits and read our responsible gambling guide.

FAQ

Is Stake legal in Malawi?

Stake's terms do not exclude Malawi, and MAGLA's enforcement targets unlicensed operators rather than players. Stake is not licensed by MAGLA. This is not legal advice; follow Malawian law.

What is MAGLA?

The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority is the national gambling regulator created by the Gaming and Lotteries Act 2022. It licenses betting, casino and lottery operators and publishes a list of licensed operators.

Can I deposit at Stake with Airtel Money or TNM Mpamba?

Not directly. Malawian players usually buy USDT or Bitcoin with mobile money on an exchange or escrowed P2P market and send it to their Stake deposit address.

What is the gambling age in Malawi?

18. MAGLA fines operators that let minors play, and Stake also requires players to be 18 and verifies ID.

Why is Stake slow in Malawi?

Usually congested mobile data, slow international routes or DNS problems. Try the fastest mirror on this page; your account is the same on every mirror.
